Helping to re-open Kanavu School—ARTONE’s model school—is our commitment to restoring a legacy that transformed tribal education in Wayanad. Founded by Mr. K. J. Baby (Baby Maman), Kanavu proved that art-based, community-rooted learning could offer a powerful alternative to conventional schooling. It was the first place to show Wayanad a true vision of tribal-centered education: a sanctuary of peace where children learned through song, art, nature, and shared living, discovering dignity, confidence, and the freedom to grow in their own culture. Reviving Kanavu is not merely rebuilding a campus; it is rekindling a dream that uplifted generations of tribal children and reminding Wayanad of what education can be when creativity, culture, and belonging lead the way.

Above image Captured on a foggy morning in Paingatery Gramam—one of South India’s oldest Brahmin villages and the neighborhood where I grew up—this image holds more than just memories. Years ago, a visit to Kalakshetra in Chennai deeply inspired me. Since then, I’ve dreamt of transforming this serene, heritage-rich place into an art village—a place where tradition meets creativity.

With its deep roots in culture, ritual, and quiet beauty, this village embodies the spirit of a dream now taking shape:
an art-based multi-varsity named The 'SMARTONE U' a true Sarvakalāśāla—a sanctuary for all the arts.
